Everyone is welcome, bring along some food, maybe a rug to sit on and come and chat with other people who want to meet you! We’re meeting HERE!!!
I’ll be the one with the Tux baseball cap. Plus crutches. Two other locations were suggested in comments for a the location. It

was too late to add them to the poll but I will make sure that they are offered as locations for the next Dublin Geeknic.

Fingers crossed the weather stays dry for us.

See you there,
moylan

We are redoing the ubuntu-ie website here for the Irish team. We have our own planet and there are many members, it would be great to add more of your blogs on here. You don’t have to post about Ubuntu, post about you, what you do, what projects you’re working on. We’re a community and we should get to know our community. You don’t have to be based in Ireland still, lots of us ex pats want to get in touch and keep up to date with one another. Tell us about what you’re working on, your hobbies, something that caught your eye, photographs anything. Yes if it’s about Ubuntu great and that is good, if it’s about OSS/FLOSS, Linux or anything Geeky you should add your blog here and tell more people about the work you are doing.

In the future on loco.ubuntu.com there will be a feed taken from all the blogs that will have a tag associated with them, that tag has yet to be decided and those posts that are about Ubuntu and your locoteam and
events will be displayed on loco.ubuntu.com

If you would like your RSS feed added just drop a line to the list there are a few admins here who can add it here for you, or nab us on ubuntu-ie on freenode or poke people on @ubuntuie twitter and identi.ca accounts and ask them to add your RSS feed plus a title for it.

Now get blogging and tell people what the folks in Ireland are doing!

I thought I’d share with people how the Irish LoCo distributes the cds to members of the team and to people who want them. I know lots of people wonder how best to get them to others as they are delivered to one person, and some teams have install fests, others hand them out in shopping centers, or to friends at work. Here in Ireland this is how we do things.

I’m copying the post here as Mike O’Donohue has done a lot of the work for this endeavorer and isn’t a member yet!!! I said I’d blog it for him if he wrote it up (hint to other team members in other locos)

Right… A few months ago we discussed the distribution effort during an IRC meeting. With Rory being away I offered to take lead on this occasion. Rory provided me with the details of the individuals and
groups who had received some of our the 10.10 CDs. With this information I contacted the college computer societies and hackerspaces on the list asking them if they would like to to be part of the 11.04 CD
distribution effort (disappointingly I got no real feedback). With 51 days before release I send out a call for ideas of what to do with our allocation to the mailing list. Again poor feedback. Anyway through
planning and discussion I had a contact list available and Rory had organised for the CDs to be delivered to me.

CDs arrived exactly one week after the release date which was real impressive. Thank you Canonical!!!!

Again Icontacted the mailing list and the compiled list of groups. This time I got better feedback. NUIG kindly asked to skip this cycle as they felt the Cds might go to waste (exams and college year ending). I was
real impressed with that and assured them that we’d be on to them again in October/November. UCD Netsoc failed to get back on to me. All other comp socs and hackerspaces that received 10.10 CDs got 11.04 CDs. As speed of delivery was critical with the academic year end in sight batches of CDs were shipped within days of us receiving our allocation.

New this cycle was the inclusion of The Nexus Cork Hackerspace. Apart from the UL skynet allocation a separate bundle has been sent to Limerick for the June Geeknic. Real encouraging is the small take up of individuals requesting a CD as a result of microblogging posts.

We currently have about 40 Desktop, 10 Kubuntu and 10 Server disks left. We want to get these into new eager hands as best as possible with as little waste as possible. Our problem
now is getting the word out further.

When we send the cds out we enclose a contact us sheet to help people get started.

We hope you find the enclosed Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal CDs useful.

Best Regards,
