It’s been two months since I joined Canonical on the Launchpad team and it’s been amazing! Each week is so different and I’m still learning. Fortunately the team are very patient and helpful which is great as Launchpad is a lot bigger than just bug control.
I work from my home and go into the office one day a week as I’m close by which is good as it’s nice to make contact with the world. I work from 9-6 each day and love having a daily stand up/catch up with my team as it helps to make you feel part of their day and you can update them with what you’re doing or if you need a helping hand which they are great at offering. I’m very strict with myself up and at the desk ready for work before 9, but not so great at taking my lunch break away from the desk. It’s hard to down tools in the evening given that’s when I do my Ubuntu work so it can be a long day looking at a computer. Still getting used to things. But I love it!
In the past two months I’ve also been busy on the LoCo Council working with the team helping teams with their issues and it’s fascinating to see how people promote Ubuntu in their areas and if we can help we do or point them at the people who can best help with any issues or give them information. I’ve been on the LC before and this is my 2nd term and no team is the same so it’s always constantly changing and very different and you have to sit back and listen and learn each time and then you can help someone else with the knowledge you have learnt.
This is my first time on the Community Council and it’s very different from the LC, lot of different areas to look at but it’s been great working with the team and learning how things are done and we’ve been meeting with all the governance boards since UDS so for me to learn what these teams do is great. and see how the governance teams operate. Looking forward to working with them for the coming cycle.
Because I like to make my life hard I’m also in the middle of helping with the organisation of two conferences, Oggcamp in Liverpool UK in August and Skycon in Limerick Ireland in October. No rest for the wicked! So in two months I’ve been kept well and truly busy and I love it
Coming months aren’t going to become any quieter so lots more posts to come.
