New year got off to a good start

New year got off to a good start

It’s been ages since I’ve posted, I need to get better at this.  But so far 2012 has gotten off to a good start. I finally had the back surgery on my back, where they removed part of a bulging disc, it was initially scheduled for 1 hr and day surgery, however the bulge was rather large and lot of extra damage was done to the area so was under for 3 hours and kept in for three days. Which considering I watched the video before hand was a bit freaky waking up to be told it took longer, also really should not watch a planned procedure before hand.  But cannot complain it was worth it and the relief I’ve gotten has been amazing. Been some grueling weeks of recovery and only being allowed to sit for 20 mins at a time is really frustrating, but the physio at my 4 week check up was amazed at my progress and thought I’d was 7-8 weeks post surgery so I was well chuffed. Less chuffed about the elbowing in the back, but I’m told it’s good for me.

End of January came and I decided to surprise the other half with a weekend trip to Paris to celebrate one year together.  It was a lot of fun if not very cold, add in some crazy Paris taxi drivers, a trip to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre museum, and a hop on hop off bus tour and yummy food and it was a lovely weekend away.

Following weekend, we went to FOSDEM, which is my favourite conference, very relaxing, full of friends, great talks, loads of yummy beers and waffles! I took part in a panel discussion on the Sunday with other members from distributions  which turned out to be very informative but did wander off topic from time to time.

Finally I got some great news in February, I joined Canonical on the Launchpad team, and they’ve been great showing me the ropes and helping me settle in and find my feet. Am well chuffed :)
