I’ve been rather busy since I started here but one of the projects I’ve been busy working on for the last few months since I started my job here at Sirius is working on organising the ODF Plugfest UK. I’d never heard about one of these events before and I found it interested to say the least, however firstly what does ODF stand for? Open Document format, which is a XML-based file format for office applications. Officially the “OpenDocument Format for Office Applications,” OpenDocument is supported in OpenOffice 2.0, StarOffice 8 and other word processors and text-based applications. Open Standard OpenDocument was designed to be used without licensing restrictions and is an alternative to Microsoft’s proprietary Office formats as well as Open XML. See OpenOffice.organd Office Open XML.
With that said, and finally clued up and caught up on previous events we set about organsing the event. We’ve been fortunate to have the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead as our host for the event, very nice venue I might add. The ODF Plugfest runs over two days broken up and covering different aspects on both days. On one day engineers from the vendors work together, peer-to-peer, on interoperability testing, debugging, resolving issues, etc. On the 2nd day there are more talks from parties that have an interest in ODF and also organisations that are using or promoting its use.
The event is free and open to anyone who would like to attend. There will be two streams on the 2nd day and if you are interested in taking part just let us know we shall be updating the timetable as we go along. Please do register. Also letting anyone you know who is interested in the event about it would be great!
