July event in Dublin

July event in Dublin

It’s easy to get complacent in summer when there’s not much on and the sun is out. Jeffrey/Tdr112 has gone about sorting this out.  We’re going to do something in July and that something is what we want you to decide.  He has created a poll and we’d like you to vote on the activity.

The idea of this event is to do something different. We’ve a geeknic to chose from work on bugs, hillwalking and lots more.  We might depending on the outcome be able to combine two things. So please vote and lets meet up this July!

Voting is here.  Come along and meet some more of the local Ubuntu folks here in Ireland. Our events are child friendly so don’t be shy in bringing your kids along!

New Tag #Locoteams – Find out what’s going on with other LoCo Teams

New Tag #Locoteams – Find out what’s going on with other LoCo Teams

So I’ve been pondering and mulling  trying to figure out how best to interact with LoCo Teams.  I’m on IRC and run a screen session so even when not there folks leave me a message.  It’s handy but I know not everyone uses IRC. Then we have a mailing list LoCo contacts list which isn’t being used as much as it can be, we’re working on that.  Then there are the forums, I’ve never been a forums user.  Finally we have social media Twitter and Identi.ca. So there are lots of ways to share your information with one another.

I thought it might be an idea for teams, members, anyone who wants to really to use the tag #locoteams If you create a search on what ever client you use, then you’ll be able to see what teams are planning, discussing, or announcing.  This would be a great way to kick start discussions and also share information with one another.

The Ubuntu community is a large international group of very enthusiastic and smart people who come up with new and exciting ways of sharing and promoting Ubuntu. Why not share that information with more people, use the #locoteams tag when you tweet and tell people about the work you are doing or just to get ideas flowing, maybe you’re stuck and want to bounce ideas off one another.

I am on twitter and identi.ca @czajkowski and do post a lot on Ubuntu, but also on rugby :) you have been warned! but I will as will other LoCo Council members be using the #locoteams tag where we can

June LoCo Council IRC Meeting Update

June LoCo Council IRC Meeting Update

I’m not sure how many people actually read or are subscribed to the Ubuntu LoCo Contacts mailing list or if information is being passed down to LoCo teams – which it should be !

From now on I’m going to post the minutes and any outcomes from the meeting to my blog here to read and link back to the wiki page in the hopes of spreading the information to more places!

mhall119 LoCo-Directory Meeting Feature

Outcomes from the Meeting

{*} Re-Approval process, and clarifying the current workflow.

The workflow is as follows. When a team is accepted into the approved community, it has two years of undisturbed work. At the end of it’s two years, it is put into a renewel pool. If the team is selected, they are reviewed and not considered again for two years. If they are not selected, they go into the pool again next year.

{*} Meeting attendance — It was resolved that Laura would email the contacts mailing list no later then the Friday preceding a meeting

{*} Ways of effectively communicating messages to Local Communities. Topic discussed included getting messages to every member of every loco in a timely manner. It was resolved to look into sending messages to mailing lists

{*} popey to investigate The LoCo Council being added to all LoCo teams mailing list so the Council can post directly to them

{*} Ways of using the new features of the LoCo Directory to leverage it’s effectiveness in a neat and well-thought out way. We discussed creating features to ease the migration from wiki to LD ( LoCo Directory ).
