Foss Events

I like going to events, but sometimes I miss out on hearing about them as I don’t find out about them till it’s too late. One has to troll the net or suscribe to multiple mailing lists.  Christel on freenode asked to join their team so I can work on community areas. One area I wanted to tackle was events and letting folks know about them.

There are so many groups and organisations who use freenode and who run meet ups, conferences, barcamps it would be great to know about them if you were travelling or just relocated.  With that we’ve been working on a new site Foss Events, I’ve added some events that I know of but would love to add more. So if folks have meet ups, geeknics, conferences, unconferences, giving a talk then let us know so we can have all of the events in one place.

  1. Cool, and about time, I’ve missed just about every event ever because I only get to hear about them when I read the reviews/articles after the event. They are just never published in one place and I simply don’t have the time to troll the net looking for them. Thank you so much for this finally getting on with this resource and keep it up, one mailing list/rss feed here should be all I ever need once you’ve got it up (page is just blank now so am Guessing I’m quite early here).

  2. Also check out nerdstogether.org – it’s automatically gathered so not completely accurate, but it’s gradually becoming more complete.

  3. Thanks folk, glad people are liking the idea of it. We have a few more features to add RSS, maps and make it a bit easier to use, but we wanted people to know about the site and start submitting and we’ve already had different events from loads of diverse communities.

  4. Have you also heard of http://wheresthegeeks.co.uk ? It’s looking like another replacement for http://upcoming.org

*sigh* can’t we all just get along? :)
