Car rental

So I looked into renting a car there for the crew reunion weekend. I was gobsmacked at the charges folks were charging and getting away with. Crazy prices, rules, and did I mention idiotic prices. One company wanted to charge me €800 excess on my CC for the weekend cause they only charged €55 quid for a car for a weekend. Budget and enterprise were the most expensive, europcar were the most difficult to deal with, to the point once I read more information I pointed out I could pay an insurance fee and thus reduce the excess on my CC.
I found thrifty. Helpful, great service, great choice and not a rip off. They were so nice the first time I booked a car, they had none left in the smaller size I got a free upgrade no whinging whinging. Last week I booked it again to go to Limerick, and they even collected me as I needed to be back in the office for 2 and have the car parked.
Thumbs up and I’m using them again for June bank holiday.

Car rental can seem expensive until you factor in all the costs of running a car and how much of the time it’s sitting idle. Only that I’m living in the countryside, far away from any rental, I’d give it very serious consideraion.

For 6 days including insurance it worked out at €31.50 a day. I live in Castleconnell, so a taxi from town out there is €26. I was at a wedding the other side of town so a taxi would have been close to €50. I also needed to be mobile and come and go as I pleased. I do have access to 2 other cars. this was just much easier.

If you rent cars on a regular basis you can get an annual car hire insurance policy – I got one last year for about 90 euro
