Everything seems to happen at once. During the week of the IOTC on the Thursday (19th June) night Paul Walsh is hosting the Firefox 3 party in Dublin. Sign up and come along, why not. Also just seeing from the ILUG mail, that Firefox are going to attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records by getting as many people to download FF3 at the same time!

It started back in January 2008. TC rang and asked did I want to go to Cardiff for the Heineken Cup Final. I went hell yes! even if Munster don’t get through it will be a great weekend as there were a good few folks going. Booked the ferry, got the ticket and organised the accommodation. That was back then, we made it through and then the plans kicked in!
Not to do anything in half measures! TC decided we were all going to be dressed as cheerleaders… at that point I cracked open the Jack!
Finally the weekend came upon us. The gear arrived, much giggling and falling around the place looking at the stuff was had. On the Thursday before the match I made my way to Rosslare on the bus as there was no lift down that would get me there on time. Little did I really know that EVERYWHERE was closed at that hour (midnight) when I arrived. The nice bus driver explained that Bus Eireann do not lock their Emergency exit doors so I could slip in and wait
I did and I was never so happy to have my E65 to keep me amused and on the net
And so Everyone arrived all hyper and shattered at the same time and starving. John had packed a picnic box and made the most tastiest Ham sandwiches ever which I we were all impressed with.

So here it is finally! The line up of speakers for the IOTC that will take place here in Dublin in June. It’s a pretty diverse line up with topics that should cater for a lot of diverse views and opinions. Should lead to some interesting debate.

So last January my carzy loo la mate TC rings me and says fancy going to Cardiff for the Heineken Cup Final in May. I say why the hell not, even if Munster aren’t in the final we’ll have a mad weekend. Turns out Munster did indeed make the final and now there are about 20 people I know going to be at it
I cannot wait!
Leaving tomorrow morning on the ferry, hopefully weather won’t cock it up and cancel on us and we shall be over and checking into our hotel which we very smartly booked last January !(turns out being organised comes in well handy at times)
So photos and post event right up pending my survival of the weekend as the loo la herself has all of us dressed up for the match with what I can only describe as utter madness that is going to require copious amounts of the strong stuff to get me to wear!

Right I am hoping to organise a small working group to take part during the IOTC. Very informal and just a small get together. So far I’ve one speaker signed up to take part in the event, thanks to Noirin Shirley. But it does beg the question as to why there are not others taking part. Is it because there are not that many women in Open Source or they don’t want to present, take part or don’t know enough but want to learn more.
Many women took part at the GGD held by Martha in February and I know more of them found the same thing happening. When you are looking for someone to go to an event with you as let’s be honest not everyone likes to or wants to turn up to an event on their own, take part in speaking or just in discussion groups, you don’t know where to look.
What I have found is that there is even fewer women in the OS community and I would like to get a list of contacts or people that would attend a short discussion group who will hopefully be attending the IOTC. Also if anyone wants to present, please let me know!
or answer my question as to Why this happens………. lack of women in Open Source
