Online shopping
Online shopping - I can possibly see now why folks don’t do it. There are certainly some distinct advantages to walking into a shop. you get to look at the purchase right there in front of you, play with it, interact, ask questions, haggling and if you like it pay for it and walk out the door. chase, playing with it and if it happens that something breaks, you can bring it back and sort it out there in person.
I just wish I’d thought more about the above when buying my recent laptop. Others have heard about my ravings and rantings about the shower of incompetent and inept folks in laptopsdirect. I’ve been trying (like they have with my patience) to get a refund back from them!
What they lack in customer care is made up for by their cheap prices. They don’t answer emails for weeks and you have to keep ringing to get an answer. They couldnt even explain to me why my laptop was eventually collected and left sitting in a ware house in Ireland which further delayed it’s arrival back in the UK so they would/could not start the refund to me until they had it. Again not my problem, take it up with the courier, stop making your problem my problem!
I rang the bank to see if it arrived as I really didn’t laptopsdirect on when they said they’d do it. They said 3-4 days and it would be back in the account, but AIB said longer. I was right not to trust them. I received an email dated 29/02/08 saying it was being credited into my account, today I get an email saying it was only an email advising their accounts department to credit my account. Turns out accounts are slow to cop on and in fact that it was only transferred on the 5/03/08.
Suffice to say I’m well and truly pissed off!
Turns out it’s not just me who has this problem with them!

Hi,
These reviews are from April 2007..? I have ordered a Laptop with excellent serivce (mind the delivery charge is a tad high).
Understand your problems but after ordering online a lot you do get the odd problem now and again.
I would def buy again from Laptops Direct again.

Nori,Also delivery chargers are even higher coming from UK to Ireland. On top of that, they seem to have a lack of understanding about customer support and ability to answer emails.

This is something that has been recognised by the big brands in the US for a while now. So what they do now is allow you to but online then go down to pick it up in the store. That way you know if it’s there and if it’s not as advertised you can get your money back straight away.

So sad to know that… there are really advantages and disadvantages of online shopping… i think it really depends on the company or the website whether they are credible or not… hope that you’ll get your refund soon!
