  • Joys of car hunting

ok this is madness!  I recently went car shopping here in Limerick.  I went to car dealership and said I was looking for a car for myself and was politely pointed in the direction of a wee nuns 1.2 car! Eh not really me now if you know me in any way.

So I decided to recruit Dave to help me search. So along we went to a garage, and the first car sales guy went up and shook Daves hand and asked him how he could help him. Dave smirked and pointed him at me. The guy still spoke to Dave.

Now really in this day and age, I would expect to be able to go shop for a car on my own and get taken seriously by a car sales person. >:(

On a side note : I saw some nice cars. Not picked one for definite just yet. Shall keep you posted.

      Hi Laura,
Was pointed your way by the Limerick Blogger and I was just going to say hello but then I saw your car hunting post.
I completely ripped off this idea from a writer but I went shopping for a car a while back first as a man and later on that week as a woman(looong story all on my blog).
Same salesman, same car but about 3,000 cheaper if you happen to be male.I went with a different auto maker.
I’m looking forward to seeing more of your blog.Best of luck.

Thanks, and hello to you to :)

I was completely taken aback when I saw the difference in cars that were shown to me and the shown to my mate. I was shown wee little things, and once I pointed out I was looking in the 1.6/1.8 range of things and styles of cars I was asked who was I buying it for.

So still looking for my car :)

:)I know exactly what you mean.In addition to the price difference I was amused/lived at being shown the vanity mirrors, cup holders, power outlets and bloody colours and appearance packages as a female. As a male much was made of the engine, transmission, sound system and “second to none performance”.

I pulled the stunt a second time with VW and they treated my exactly the same on both occasions.I was so impressed with them I bought the car.(2.5 Jetta)

I suspect I know which dealership this was…if it was one in particular…heard so many complaints about them when I used to work in a garage. It also happens to be one of the largest and most profitable multi franchise delaerships in the city???

One garage was on the Dublin road :) The other was on the Tiperary road who basically looked past me to my mate shook his hand and dealt with him >:(

I’m looking at buying the car now from Dublin or in the North
